David Weale Obituary

David T. Weale, age 89, affectionately known as “Pap”, kissed this world goodbye Sunday, October 13, six days shy of his 62nd wedding anniversary.  Left to celebrate his life are his wife, Florence Tenzar Weale, his children, Joseph Weale, Linda Weale, Stephen Weale (Becky), Michael Weale (Patty), and Denise Weale, his grandchildren, Jessica (Brad) Gardner, Kaitlyn Weale, Brianna (Jake) Rady, David, John, Dominick and Cobi Weale, and Frank and Rachel Agnello, and many nieces and nephews, especially his nephew Lee Tamburro who he was crazy about.  In heaven Dave will join his mother, Marie Midnight Weale, who certainly is there, and his father, Roy Weale (a definite maybe).  Also greeting him in heaven will be his Uncle Jim and Aunt Sis and his sister Patricia Yount who, no doubt, will let him know that she got there first and knows the way around.

Although many people who knew Dave believed Clint Eastwood’s character in the movie Grand Torino was modeled after him, there is no evidence the screenwriters and Dave ever met.  But like the character, Dave at his core was a person of great human decency wrapped in layers of crust.  He always had something to say. It was either witty, a tongue lashing, or plain old common sense, but it was always intended for your benefit.  He was very opinionated, but rarely diplomatic.  When he learned the results of the 2016 election his response was, “There are a lot more lunatics in this country than I thought.”  He was an avid fan of the Steelers, Penguins, Starbuck’s Chai Latte, and Wendy’s.  A Korean War Veteran, he supported the American Legion and the VFW.   Many charities will miss his generosity, among them the VFW, American Legion, Little Sisters of the Poor, Wounded Warriors Project, Association for the Blind, The Diabetes Association and the Democratic National Committee.  He didn’t like slow drivers, or hospital stays.  He checked himself out of the hospital at least once and refused admission on occasion stating, “Get me the hell out of here before they kill me!”  He was a big fan of his car horn, and simple things like Easter egg hunts for his grandchildren, and getting his picture taken wearing funny hats at holidays.

Dave was dedicated to his family.  He loved his wife, drove her crazy at times, but she’ll miss him.  He had a large presence in the lives of his children, grandchildren and nieces and nephews and tried to pass on positive qualities to them such as being responsible, making good decisions, being persistent, and keeping very detailed records.  We will miss that.  Dave wasn’t perfect.  However, he played an extra important role in the lives of his nephew Lee and granddaughter Brianna.  He was her biggest fan and best friend.  In his care for them we saw perfection.  It was beautiful and a joy to see.

As per Dave's request, there are no visitations.  Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, October 28, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church of St.Teresa of Kolkata Parish, 1810 Belasco Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15216.  Inurnment to follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies with full Military Honors.  If you plan on joining the procession to the church and cemetery please meet at the funeral home, 2201 Bensonia Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15216, at 10:00 a.m.  If you are attending the Mass only, please go straight to the church.

In Pap’s memory, the family suggests you have a drink, buy a scratch off, do something nice for a grandchild, niece or nephew, and instead of sending flowers, make a donation to a charity
