Alfred Pistilli Obituary

Age 100, of Beechview, on Friday, January 1, 2021. Beloved husband of the late Irene I. (Calderigi) Pistilli. Loving father of Nancy Zoror and the late Alan and Alfred Pistilli. Grandfather of Peggy McCoy, Rebecca DeLaCruz, Beth Pistilli, Daniel Zoror, and Zach Zoror. Great-grandfather of Makenna Raymond, Kai DeLaCruz, and Dante Zoror. Brother of Vincent (Virginia) Pistilli. Also survived my many loving nieces and nephews.

Alfred A. Pistilli was born on September 3, 1920 in Serravalle di Chienti, Italy to Alcide and Josephine Pistilli. Later that year, the family immigrated to the United States, where they settled in Bentleyville, PA. Soon this small family grew to have seven more children. Alfred grew up the eldest child of the family during the challenging time of the Great Depression. He shared many stories of how his family and community worked together to endure and survive. On April 19, 1939 he married the love of his life, Irene, and they started a family of their own. They welcomed two sons and began their lives. New challenges awaited when World War II began. Alfred and Irene answered their country’s call to duty in supporting the war effort. Alfred worked as a mechanic and machinist for a defense plant, while Irene took work as a Riveter making B-29’s. Alfred eventually was drafted into the army, where he served 2 years in the South Pacific. When his service ended he took many jobs to support his family. He eventually settled in Ridgway, PA in the 1950’s and built his home. He was a custodian for Ridgway School District and then a machinist at IPM until his retirement. Alfred enjoyed fishing, going hunting and always had a beautiful garden. He was a great storyteller and would amaze everyone with his stories about his life experiences, which always included the exclamation, “Lo and behold.” Alfred’s love for his family, strength and determination will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him dearly.
