Brian McMahon Obituary

Age 59, of Woodbridge, Va., died on Sunday Nov. 10, 2019 with his wife by his side.  Beloved husband of 36-years, Josie (Patterson) McMahon –a lady he charmed in 1979 at the South Hills Village Sears and Roebucks candy counter. Brian loved to travel with Josie and together they travelled extensively throughout the Caribbean. Brian is survived by his daughters Jamie McMahon of Arlington, Va., and Jessica Shand (Stephen) of London, United Kingdom.  Brian is also survived by his grandson, Alexander John Fredrick Shand, a toddler whom he is most proud of.  Brian was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., the eldest of five boys to his father, the late John Regis McMahon and his mother Jo Ann Finan of Columbus, Ohio.  He is survived by Chris McMahon, Stuart McMahon, Kevin McMahon, and David McMahon. Brian cherished his brothers dearly. As a native Pittsburgher, Brian was born to wave the Terrible Towel. He loved watching the Pittsburgh Steelers play. In the 1970s, Brian jumped the fence at the Pittsburgh Steelers Training camp and spent the day with Franco Harris.  He would later reunite with Franco at a Christmas Parade in Downtown Pittsburgh and would recount to him what had transpired that fateful summers day. Like most yinzers, you could often find Mac tailgating on Sunday with his friends in the CCAC parking lot on the North Side. Brian was employed with American Airlines for 34-years at Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA). As the Aircraft Maintenance Technical Crew Chief, Brian loved the growl of the engines and spent nearly four decades expanding his knowledge of Avionics, engines and hydraulics.  Whilst working for American Airlines, Brian was a passionate advocate for workers’ rights. He was a dedicated member of the Transport Workers Union (TWU) Local 510 where he contributed to maintenance contract negations; and later the Local 591, where he served as the Station Chair Person Title I. Brian loved supporting his fellow colleagues and believed adamantly in finding sustainable and practical solutions for mechanics in the aviation industry. Brian will be dearly missed.
