Age 84, of Pittsburgh, on Friday, March 28, 2025. Carol was born in Pittsburgh, on November 10, 1940, to the late Melvin R. and Betty (Williams) MacDonald, of Mt. Lebanon.
Carol graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School, Class of 1958. From there she went on to graduate from the University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio. Carol taught in the Cleveland Public Schools for three years before returning to Pittsburgh to teach at Mt. Lebanon and Keystone Oaks.
Her sincere and lifelong love of animals led her to wish for the eight years necessary for a Veterinary Science Degree; time constraints did not allow for this. She did further graduate work at Duquesne University and West Virginia University.
Carol was married in Dover, Delaware to Edward M. Gillette from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Carol and Edward pursued a life of happiness with many friends and relatives in Delaware. Carol continued to teach, and Edward was a Corporate Manager at Playtex International.
Much time was spent at the lovely beaches of the Delaware peninsula and Chesapeake Bay area.
Prior to her marriage, Carol had a very enjoyable three-month trip to Europe with her grandmother, Lillian Hale Wirring. They visited with relatives in Wales and had a great time.
When Edward received an employment transfer to Raliegh, North Carolina, they moved there and built a beautiful home in Apex, North Carolina.
Carol had studied for her real estate license while in Delaware and enjoyed sales for a while. She also was a librarian at the Delaware State University Library.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She led a happy and spiritual life and will be missed by friends and cousins.
As per Carol’s wishes, there will be no services. Interment was held privately. In lieu of flowers, Carol’s wishes were for donations to be made to St. Teresa of Kolkata Parish, 1810 Belasco Ave., Pgh, PA 15216, or to Humane Animal Rescue, www.humaneanimalrescue.org/donate/. Arrangements are entrusted to BRUSCO-NAPIER FUNERAL SERVICE, LTD., 2202 Bensonia Ave., Pgh, PA 15216.
