Charles N. "Chuck" Mares, Jr.

Charlie “Chuck” Mares, age 79, of Beechview, died peacefully surrounded by his family. He was a proud Marine Sergeant who also achieved that rank as an 35-year officer of the Pittsburgh Police. He was married for 50 years to his beloved Eileen Sara (Coyne). Together, they had three children: Mary Kate (Lyle) Roberts, John David Mares, and Michael Anthony (Julie) Mares, and five grandchildren: Silas and Sienna Roberts, Anna and Eli Mares, and Riley Mares.

Chuck was the son of the late Charles and Josephine (Pejak) Mares. He is survived by two sisters, Mary Jo Lennon and Fran Desher. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard (Roni), and sisters Betty Cooley, Theresa Micklavic, Emma Fichter and Ginny Deffner.

Chuck was always very proud of his Troy Hill roots. He enjoyed his woodshop where he crafted many intricate, beautiful items. He was well-read and loved to argue ....er... politely discuss current events. He and Eileen enjoyed summers in their camper, and often hosted family and friends in their backyard pool.

Friends received from 3-8 p.m. on Friday at BRUSCO-NAPIER FUNERAL SERVICE, LTD., 2201 Bensonia Ave., Pgh, PA 15216. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Teresa of Kolkata Parish--St. Catherine of Siena Church, 1810 Belasco Ave., Pgh, PA 15216. Everyone please meet at church. There will be a military service held outside of church directly following mass.
