Age 91, of Castle Shannon, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. She was born July 18, 1933, in Pittsburgh, PA, daughter of the late Francesco "Frank" DiPerna and Rosella "Rose" Petrone who immigrated from Piaggine, Italy, granddaughter of Victor Petrone and Maria Petraglia and Antonio DiPerna and Donata Caggiano of Piaggine, Italy.
As a young woman, she lived on a farm, was fluent in both Italian and English, and married Adam Walter "Loddie" Lacek at the age of 16. They shared 30 years of marriage before his passing. A devoted caregiver, she cared for her mother for 34 years while raising her four sons and lovingly watching over her grandchildren. She spent 22 years living in a senior high-rise in Dormont, where she was an active member of the community, helping to create and organize many enjoyable activities for her fellow residents. She found joy in reading, baking Christmas cookies, playing bingo, solving puzzles, and holding hands with whomever sat beside her. Her faith was central to her life-she was a devout member of St. Pius X Church in Brookline, for over 60 years and later attended St. Anne's Church. In her later years, she lived with Dan's family before transitioning to Bethel Park Skilled Care.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Anthony DiPerna, sister-in-laws Mary DiPerna, Jean, Bertha, Antoinette Lacek, Sophie Caster and Mary Resavage, brother-in-laws; Anthony, John, Paul Lacek, Richard Caster and her nephew and godson Frank DiPerna.
Dorothy is survived by her sons Tony (Mary), Mike (Dana), Dave (Carolyn) and Dan (Kelly) Lacek; her brother Carl "Pat" DiPerna and brother-in-law George Resavage; Grandma and Nana to 12 grandchildren; Brian (Sue), David Jr., Brendan (Cristin), Erin (Lewis) Stolburg, Katie (Frank) Conti, Ashley (Todd) Lewis, Michael, Stephen, Hannah, Angie, Matthew and the late Amanda; her nine great-grandchildren, Cameron, Devin, Charlotte, Penelope, Emma and Dean Stolburg, Cooper and Cole Lewis and Korina Conti; and many extended family members.
The strong foundation her mother instilled in her as a young woman-living a Christian life and being a devoted homemaker-stayed with Dorothy throughout her life. She always longed for a daughter, and her prayers were answered when the Lord blessed her with four wonderful daughters-in-law who loved and treated her as their own mother. Mom, Grandma, and Nana, you will be deeply missed for your unconditional love and the daily prayers you offered for your family.
A special thank you to the family and friends who took the time to visit her and call, reminding her just how much she was loved and cherished.
