Age 93, of Moon Township, formerly of Beechview, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, February 11, 2022. He was born in Mt. Lebanon, on August 28, 1928. Father of Edward II of North Carolina, Deborah (Michael) Mankowski of Moon Township, and Douglas (Dana) of Virginia. Son of the late Ralph and Ginny Gaetano. Brother of the late Ralph (Dorothy) and Robert (Dee). Step-father of Deborah McDonald (Dennis Kozimer), Donna (John) Barron, Kelly McDonald, Colleen (Gary) Walz, Linda Revetta (Rege Curtin), Stacy McDonald, and Rayann (John) Lytle. Also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A 1946 graduate of South Hills High School, he started working as a teenager at Donahoe’s Food Store. He proudly served in the Marine Corps from 1952-1954. When he returned home, he again worked for Donohue’s before purchasing the Homewood Beer Distributor in 1955. Ed eventually sold the beer distributor and went to work for Radform Tool Company in East McKeesport in 1960 as a lathe operator. He continued to work part time for Radform Tool for about five years after joining the City of Pittsburgh Police Department as a motorcycle traffic officer riding Cycle 46 in 1963. He retired from the police department in 1985 and worked with his wife Vida in the catering business she had started. Together they owned Gaetano’s Catering & Banquet Hall on Broadway Avenue in McKees Rocks until her passing in 1994. He could be seen for many years on Sunday mornings as one of the ushers at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Beechview and later in life at the pasta dinners held Friday nights at Mt. Pisgah Church in Green Tree. Friends received from 2-8 p.m. on Friday at BRUSCO-NAPIER FUNERAL SERVICE, LTD.2201 Bensonia Ave., Pgh, PA 15216.
