Edward Joseph Sporcic, age 97, of Dormont, formerly Mt. Holly Springs, PA, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at Fair Oaks of Pittsburgh assisted living facility in Pittsburgh, PA. Beloved husband of the late Johanna C. (Saganic) Sporcic. Loving father of Robert A. (Arlene) Sporcic and the late Edward R. Sporcic. Grandfather of Robert Matthew Sporcic, Maria Ann (Austin) Ridgley, and the late Mark Andrew Sporcic. Brother of the late Matthew, William and Sophie. Son of the late Matthew and Josephine (Desina) Sporcic. Ed will be sadly missed by many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. Edward was born November 1, 1923, in Brackenridge, PA to Matthew and Josephine (Desina) Sporcic. Edward married his loving wife Johanna Sporcic on July 2, 1949, at All Saints Church in Etna, PA. He was a graduate of Har-Brack (now Highlands) High School. Edward was a World War II Veteran serving in the Navy Seebees and specializing in munitions and transportation. He participated in the D Day Invasion. Edward was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad, the Yellow Cab Company in Pittsburgh, PA, and was a dedicated employee of PPG Industries. He worked at PPG in Creighton, PA, Clarksburg, WV, and Carlisle, PA, glass factories. Edward moved to Mt. Holly Springs in 1972. Edward was a member of the American Legion in Brackenridge, PA, the Slovene National Benefit Society (SNPJ), and St. Teresa of Kolkata Parish in Beechview, PA. He enjoyed polka music, especially the button box. In April of 2011, he returned to Pittsburgh, PA. Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday at BRUSCO-NAPIER FUNERAL SERVICE, LTD., 2201 Bensonia Ave., Pgh, PA 15216. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Teresa of Kolkata Parish—St. Catherine of Siena Church, 1810 Belasco Ave., Pgh, PA 15216. Edward will be laid to rest next to his wife, Johanna, in St. Patrick Cemetery in Carlisle, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to St. Teresa of Kolkata Parish, 1810 Belasco Ave., Pgh, PA 15216.
