Age 91, and a lifelong resident of Beechview, Gary passed peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2020. Gary was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Kathryn Baumeister and his wife Emma (Hrydil) Baumeister, who was the love of his life for fifty-three years, before her death in 2006. Gary attended South Hills High School. He served in the Army in Germany during the Korean War and was employed for thirty-nine years as a driver for the Braun Baking Company. Gary enjoyed all sports. He spent time as a pitching prospect in the Cincinnati Reds organization. He later played organized softball for Dom’s Café and Koppel’s Café. He loved golf, but his passion was shooting pool. For years he shot pool for Mr. Jack’s Neighborhood (formerly Henry and Dolly’s). Gary was the head basketball coach for many years at St. Catherine of Siena, St. Mary of the Mount and St. Justin High Schools. Gary is survived by his beloved daughter-like niece, Diane Rau, and his son-like friend Thomas Milcarek, as well as other nieces and nephews. Gary was close to the Takach family. His Aunt Becky and Uncle Emil were loved by Gary, and their two sons, Lee and Don, were like brothers to him. Services and entombment in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery Mausoleum beside his love, wife Emma, are being held privately. Arrangements entrusted to BRUSCO-NAPIER FUNERAL SERVICE, LTD.
