Susan Doyle Brassart, 76, of Beechview and Baldwin, passed away peacefully, with her family, in a room overflowing with love, on Friday, May 1, 2026. She is now reunited in heaven with the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Maurice Brassart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Dorothy Doyle; her brother, Robert Doyle; and her sister-in-law, Donna Doyle.
Susan was a kind and generous woman whose heart was only rivaled in size by her big and contagious laugh. She had a special gift for laughing at herself, whether it was after tumbling down the steps at PPG or the unforgettable time she found herself stuck in her trunk at Century III Mall. In Susan’s world, even life’s mishaps became stories worth retelling, with a laugh that brought everyone else along with her.
Her love language was simple. If you needed a ride, Susan was already grabbing her keys. No destination was too far, no hour too inconvenient. She would stop and offer anyone a ride. The fact that she did not know her future passenger meant nothing to Susan who very strongly lacked a sense of stranger danger. She was the unpaid jitney of Beechview; with a flick of the wrist, the door swung open as Susan offered in her booming voice, “Get in!” She showed her love through acts of service, quiet generosity, and a constant awareness of others’ needs. While Susan’s heart was endlessly kind, she did have her limits, especially behind that wheel. She would drive you anywhere and say a rosary while doing it, but merging in front of her late in traffic was a risk no one should take!
Susan’s hobbies included worrying about the people she loved and praying for them. Her faith was steady and strong, guiding her life and the way she cared for others. She was also famously dedicated to attending visitations and funerals. If someone you loved passed away, Susan would be there, offering support and presence. She collected funeral cards as if they were Clemente’s and Stargell’s, a reflection of how deeply she valued showing up for others.
She retired as an advocate at the Center for Victims, a role that perfectly matched her compassionate nature. Susan also generously gave her time, volunteering with St. Vincent de Paul and at St. Catherine of Siena Church and School.
She is survived by her loving children, Jolene Johnson, Matt (Megan) Brassart, Carrie (Joseph) Lyons, and Julie (Nicholas) Keylon; her cherished grandchildren, Katie Grace, Chad, Holden, Ellie, Leo, Maura, Reed, Greta, and Annie; and her sons-in-law, Reginald Johnson and Jason Farmerie. She is also survived by her siblings, Nancy (Michael) Athanas, William Doyle, Kathleen (Stephen) Klein, Ann (Andrew) Kachmar, Marie (Steven) McGlynn, and sister-in-law, Mary Doyle, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Susan’s life was one of service, deep love, and unwavering faith. She will be remembered for her generosity, her humor, and the way she showed up, again and again for the people who needed her.
The world is a little quieter without her laugh, but so much better because of her love. In her honor, say a prayer, lend a hand, and check on someone who might need you, just as Susan always did.
